My Interview with Kanayo Ebi

So I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to interview the fashionably talented  Kanayo Ebi. She is a NYC based celeb stylist/image consultant who has worked with celebrities such as  Angela and Vanessa Simmons, Adrienne Bailon and more.

Wardrobe Fam-At what moment in your life did you know that you wanted to pursue a career as a stylist?

Kanayo- I was just lead down the right path. I attended St. Johns University majoring in Psychology but fashion was always a hobby for me. My parents are African so being around another culture also helped me become more creative. In college, a lot of my friends were models so I used to style them for their photoshoots which was good practice for me and thats when my passion for fashion started.

Wardrobe Fam- Angela Simmons' style has to be one of my fashion inspirations. What inspires the look you provide for her?

Kanayo- Angela has her own style and a strong eye for fashion so dressing her is fun. She's very adventurous, diverse and likes to try new and different things. Her style is very fun, flirty and edgy. Angela is a petite girl so she wears alot of high heels for that extra height.

Wardrobe Fam-Did you have role models in the fashion industry growing up?

Kanayo- Yes. My mom and dad were very fashion aware. I used to pick out outfits for them to go to work in. I got inspired alot from the styles of Blondie, Rachael Zoe, Gwen Stefani and Cyndi Lauper.

Wardrobe Fam- What new trends do you predict will be showcased this year?

Kanayo- I predict alot of light colors, boho sheek, maxi skirts and dresses, harem pants, greys, nude and mixing and matching patterns.

Wardrobe Fam-If you could change anything about the fashion industry what would it be?

Kanayo-The fashion world can be superficial sometimes and I wish more people  could work with each other. Also, there's not enough fashionable plus size clothing and that needs to change.

Wardrobe Fam-What advice would you give to young adults interested in entering the fashion industry?

Kanayo-Follow your dream. Stay true to yourself, consistent and open minded. Everyday is a learning experience.

Step Inside My Wardrobe

So since it's Spring I figured why not do a fun photoshoot wearing nothing but my cool thrift store pieces...yes thrift store. I've been so accustomed to thrifting  I barely shop in the mall anymore. Every piece I'm wearing (minus shoes) is  under $10. Photography by Jazmine Dooley @DeathlyFlowers1 via Twitter.

Living in the moment

Just a couple of shots from my Spring Break. It was a last minute getaway, but we had a blast. You can never go wrong with good friends in a peaceful setting.

Times like this make me feel that noone or nothing matters.

Spring Fashion and Beauty Fever

Finally my favorite style season is here! Spring fashion is exciting for me because its all about taking chances and playing with colors. The warm weather just puts me in a great mood to get creative. For myself, Spring is the best time to channel self expression through my fashion pieces. This season, I’ve been a fan of mixing and matching prints. For women, neon and nude colors are good essential pieces for a spring wardrobe. Loud patterns such as stripes, floral prints and polka dots are also very trendy right now.

My passion for fashion has recently been translated into a love for cosmetics as well. One cool thing about beauty and cosmetics is that it goes accordingly with the seasons. For Fall/Winter season you do more of a heavier look such as bright red lips and darker eye makeup. For a Spring look you want to do more of a soft natural look such as light and colorful eyeshadows and a lighter pink or nude color lip. The same rules apply for nail polish. Darker hues in the Fall/Winter and lighter hues in the Spring. When doing your makeup always remember to accent your flaws and not cover them.
